I was just looking at a website for Encore Books in NDG-I was told by a guy who worked there recently that if I had some CDs or books to sell to just send them a list of the items via e-mail-yet they don't even have an e-mail address on their website. I would call that a surprisingly arrogant attitude from them. They are a popular spot to buy used stuff in the NDG area, and I have bought stuff from them in the past-but maybe not again, now that I see where they were coming from.

Julia: I never got a chance to check out Chez Maggy before we moved, but every time my husband and I passed by the place I'd say, "We should eat there sometime!" I've definitely heard good things, so if we're ever back in the old neighborhood, I will be sure to give it a try.

A very informative article.
Definitely need to plan a visit to one of these national parks to spot this majestic creature. Also fervently hope that their number does not reduce any further.

I have to add Chez Maggy at 4912 Wellington. Maggy cooks up homestyle Indian food, even grinding her own lentil flour to make pakora. The portions are insane (you will definitely be taking some home) and the prices are really reasonable. It's also BYOB. Maggy is a lovely woman - it would be great to see this business do well. She's been open for just over a year now, so it's looking good.

Great post, Laura! I'm so glad to discover your writings on Verdun. We moved here from the Mile End a couple of years ago and I definitely feel like it's still a bit of a hidden gem in Montreal.

I just found this post while searching reviews on La Tazza (lovely cafe, couldn't agree more with your review). Nu Art Cafe on Wellington serves a really decent breakfast on weekends, although the secret's out now and it can be really busy.
The polish deli on the corner of Gertrude and De L'Eglise is not only run by the most wonderful woman, but she also bakes lovely cheesecakes that might satisfy a bit of that bakery craving.
