Yes I totally agree with Shannon, Avebury is much more exciting and free to roam around unlike Stonehenge. I've been there four times now and have all the books, but nothing explains it better than Roy Goutte's book 'A Lady In Waiting'. He believes that the Avebury Complex is a Neolithic Female Earth Figure built to lead the souls of the dead into their Afterlife. After reading it I couldn't help but be totally convinced and wondered why it has taken SO long for someone to come up with something so plausible. He links all the component parts of the Complex in to what is so obviously a figure that you have to ask why nobody has seen that before! I bought the book on recommendation of a friend of mine who's an archaeologist and got it from http://aveburyaladyinwaiting.co.uk/
but I'm sure it can be bought in the National Trust shop at Avebury itself.

Keith - I really enjoyed the personal tour of Stonehenge and Avebury. I enjoyed Avebury much more than Stonehenge. Best part about the Stonehenge area? Stonehenge Ales!
